The Absolute Best True Crime Films of 2022

True Crime has never been more popular than it is now. The top docuseries, top streaming docs and, for sure, the top podcasts, are all the proof one needs. It’s difficult to narrow down the best of 2022, there were so many from which to choose. But here are some of my personal standouts. What were yours?

I thought The Invisible Pilot and The Texas Killing Fields were tops, but these titles below were right up there:

Bad Vegan. It seems like this was the year of ‘I Can’t Believe She Fell For That’ docs, but this is a really good one. So good that I sometimes doubted its authenticity. Read the review
Sins of Our Mother. This new 3-episode True Crime series tells the story in greater detail and with many people who knew Lori Vallow best contributing. Read the review
The Most Hated Man on the Internet. It makes your blood boil, but knowing that this dirt bag is going down makes it a satisfying cat and mouse story.

Mind over Murder. If this were a fictional story, you’d never buy it. It’s too improbable, too fantastical. There are too many times where you’d say to yourself, “no way!” Read the review
Murder at The Cottage: The Search For Justice For Sophie. Fans of True Crime may already know the story, especially those who have watched Sophie: A Murder in West Cork on Netflix, but True Crime addicts like me are happy to see another version of the same case from a different perspective: Irish Director Jim Sheridan’s Read the review
The Real Bling Ring: Hollywood Heist. It’s already been a semi-fictionalized movie. Now the real people have come forth. Read the review
The Murders at Starved Rock. It looks like another “false confession” doc, but it ends up being about much more and examines the very nature of truth and memory. Read the review
