“Echoes” | Series is Silly, Soapy Fun

At some point, they changed the name to “Daytime Dramas,” but most of us still know them as “Soap Operas.” Has there ever been one that didn’t have a “twins” plot.

There’s so much campy fun to be had, and Echoes pushes every one of those buttons

I’ll keep this short to avoid any spoilers, I will only reveal (because it’s in their own publicity materials) that twins, Leni and Gina (played by the great Michelle Monaghan) decide to switch places, swap their lives.  It’s all fun and games until one of the sisters goes missing- then the secret and an increasing amount of bad stuff threatens to ruin everything.

Gina lives in Los Angeles, having left the family horse farm in rural Virginia many years ago. Leni stayed on the farm and married a handsome guy (Matt Bomer). Leni and her horse disappear and Gina flies back to help the entire town search for her.

The town Sheriff, played by Karen Robinson, is perpetually suspicious – her big eyes wide open and her delivery perfectly corny for the circumstances.

There are affairs, deaths, unforeseen twists and a finale that suggests a Season Two could be in the offing. Although, it has officially been classified as a limited series, which means probably not. We will see.

Was it “good?”  Well, not exactly. Did I enjoy the characters and story and settings in spite of my “critic’s eye?” Yes. Yes I did.

Echoes is currently streaming on Netflix | 10 Episodes
