The Envelope, Please. Here are the Oscar Nominations, Snubs and Surprises

For anyone who thought that 2021 wouldn’t yield many great movies because of the pandemic and all, these Academy Award nominations will quickly school them.

It was actually a great year – many, many top notch films did NOT get nominated today. Hey, there are only  a few slots available, that’s how it goes.

I am so glad that Lady Gaga did not get a nod for her campy perf in Gucci- she campaigned so hard for it that you could smell the desperation. So that is a plus!

Very happy for Troy Kotsar, the deaf actor in Coda who was amazing AND Coda got a Best Picture nomination! That is good news, indeed.

I was not among the enchanted for Kristen Stewart’s performance as Lady Diana in Spencer, but the buzz was loud from the start. I would have loved to see Alana Haim from Licorice Pizza get that slot instead. And I am crestfallen that Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga from Passing did not get nominated. That’s a travesty.

My money is on The Power of the Dog to take home Director, Actor, Supporting Actress and Score. The Academy Awards will air March 27th on ABC. Who did the Academy snub this year? Lemme know.

The Best Films of 2021 Here

Kinda shocked that Don’t Look Up got so much love-it wasn’t great, but if you play 6 degrees of separation with the cast-well, they have a lot of friends.

The Japanese film Drive My Car got multiple nods, unusual for an International film, and Denmark’s Flee also got a lot of Academy love.

I wish Guillermo del Toro has gotten a Best Directing nod, but he can console himself with the Best Picture nomination, along with several others.
